From Nevada Representative November 22, 1905 (page 5)
Editor Beck in the Cambridge Leader sketches with tender appreciation the life of John I. Shonts, a cheery veteran of the civil war who was one of the old timers of Cambridge and a familiar figure at all soldiers' reunions in this vicinity and who November 13th, past ninety years of age, closed his life a the Soldier's Home in Marshalltown. The editor's concluding words are, "Goodby, Uncle Johnny, and may your eternal rest be among those who never harmed man or beast more than did you. You did your duty in time of war and made brighter the world in time of peace; the bugle has sounded 'reveille' for your company and the principal musician of the unnumbered hosts will soon blow 'assembly' for the entire army of the blue to fall in for final muster. God bless them, one and all."
