Atkinson Funeral Wednesday Afternoon

Funeral services for Geo. W. Atkinson, retired merchant and longtime resident of Nevada, who died suddenly at his home on Fifth and Avenue H., at an early hour Monday, were held at Central Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon. They were in charge of his pastor, Rev. J. George Walz and interment was in the Nevada cemetery.

The Odd Fellows lodge of which he had long been an active member, attended in a body and had charge of the interment, the body being laid to rest according to their ritualistic ceremonies.

The services were attended by a large concourse of neighbors and friends, who with the members of the family and lodgement, nearly filled the auditorium of the church.

Geo. W. Atkinson was born in Taylor county, Kentucky Dec. 21, 1866. His parents were W. W. T. and Jeannettie Atkinson, pioneers in that locality.

When a young man Mr. Atkinson spent some time in Wyoming and Nebraska later coming to Nevada. For about thirty-five years he has identified himself with the various interests of Nevada, for several years being engaged in the mercantile business.

He united with the Presbyterian church soon after coming to Nevada. He was faithful in the discharge of his church duties, serving as elder for some time.

He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and of the Modern Woodmen of America.

On Nov. 5, 1901 Mr. Atkinson was united in marriage with Miss Florence Wyatt. To this union were born Wyatt Atkinson and Illa J. Atkinson in addition to the immediate family he leaves to mourn his passing three sisters and two brothers. The sisters being Mrs. Kemper Willis of Hamilton City, Calif., and Mrs. Henry Wilkerson and Mrs. Willis Gilpin both of Campbellsville, Kentuck. The brothers are Dr. J. L. Atkinson of Campbellsville, Ky., and Rev. B. F. Atkinson of Louisville, Ky.
