U. S. HOSPITALS
We publish, below, a portion of a letter from Mr. Samuel Hiestand, a citizen of New Philadelphia, in this county, who has done nobly for the Union cause in sending sons and sons-in-law into the army. We omit a portion of the letter, relating matters that have but little interest for the general reader. The country is full of like mourners, and the infernal traitors are alone chargeable with it. The reform so much desired by our correspondent is, we hope, about to be instituted, by a re-organization of the hospital and ambulance service, and the dismissal of incompetent surgeons and other officials connected with the army.
We learn from this letter that Mr. Hiestand's youngest son, Abraham, died in hospital, near Vicksburg, on the 13th of November last.
