Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Judith Nadine Demarest, age 75, of Ames, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2019 at the Israel Family Hospice House.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 200 Lynn Ave., Ames, Iowa, 50014. Friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Adams Funeral Home, 502 Douglas Ave., Ames, Iowa. Burial will be in Story Memorial Gardens.

Born on September 29, 1944 in Ames, Iowa, Judy was the daughter of Sabin and Margaret (Andrew) Nichols. Judy grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1962. After high school, she worked for the ISU Press. Judy was married to Lawrence Nigh. Their son, Jeffery was born to this union. The couple later divorced. Judy began her career in bookkeeping for her father at Allen Machine and Supply. Judy was united in marriage to James Demarest on May 21, 1994 at First Baptist Church. She retired as a bookkeeper from ACI Mechanical in 2011.

Judy enjoyed traveling and Las Vegas was always a favorite destination. She was a past member of the Pure Heaven Color Guard, winning multiple national championships. Judy was a 52-year member of the Ames American Legion Auxiliary Post #37. In her spare time, Judy enjoyed reading. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist church of Ames where she had the opportunity to help dig the first hole for the new church.

Judy is survived by her husband, Jim of Ames; her son, Jeffery (Stephanie) Nigh of Ames; grandchildren, Aidan and Kate Nigh; a brother, Roger (Glendy) Nichols of Sioux City; a niece, Margaret (John) Baldridge; a nephew, Charles Nichols; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left for Judy’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church.
