CIVIL WAR VETERAN ANSWERED "TAPS"

SERVICES FOR CHRIS LOGAN HELD AT SALEMS CHURCH AT ROLAND.

Roland, Oct. 18.--The funeral services for the late C. Logan, 85, civil war veteran, who passed away last Monday morning, were held at Salem's church Thursday afternoon, the funeral being a military funeral, the American Legion taking part in the services. Mr. Logan was born in Tjernagel, Haugesund, Norway, on April 19, 1841. When sixteen years of age he left his native country and came to Illinois. During the Civil war he enlisted at Newark, Ill., and he was later honorably discharged on account of illness. He was married to Bertha Leir in 1864 and five children were born to them; Mrs. Logan died in 1883 and in the fall of 1883 he was married to Gurine Ostrem who passed away in 1885. In 1888 he was married Mrs. Julia Boyd*, and five children were born to them. Mrs. Logan died three years ago. Mr. Logan made his home on a farm north of town for a number of years, moving to Roland in 1914. He leaves to mourn his death four sons, Henry Logan of Pipestone, Minn., Knut Logan of Ada, Minn., Palmer Logan of Roland and Noel Logan of Dubuque, and six daughters, Mrs. H. M. Sparsboe of Minneapolis, Mrs. P. S. Larson of Minneapolis, Mrs. C. S. Tesdahl of Radcliffe, Mrs. Jones Christian, Mrs. Ed Christian and Mrs. Knut Mehus all of Roland. He also leaves three step-children, O. S. Boyd and Mrs. O. P. Teig of Roland, and Mrs. J. M. Mason of Montividio, Minn.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mrs. Julia Boyd's maiden name was Julia Elizabeth Duea. She was first married to John Henry Boyd 22 January 1884 in Story County, Iowa. John Henry Boyd died 9 October 1884.
