Funeral Rites for Oliver Richardson Held Tuesday

Slater, Sept. 2--Funeral services for Oliver Richardson were held Tuesday afternoon with a brief prayer service at the home at 1:30 o'clock, and at two o'clock services were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran church. The services were in charge of Rev. P. E. Onstad assisted by Rev. E. R. Rorem of Story City and Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge. The latter gave a brief sermon in the Norwegian language. The beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. Anna Olson, Mrs Elmer Richardson and Miss Edna Houge.

A number of gifts of money to the missions were given by relatives and friends in memory of Mr. Richardson.

Rev. Onstad sang a Norwegian solo, "Den Store Hvide Flok."

Two duets, "The Old Rugged Cross: and "The Lord Is My Shepherd: were sung by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. A. L. Peterson.

The pall bearers were Jerrold Erickson of Ames, Otis Anderson of Roland, Elmer Richardson, and Nels Richardson of Kelley, Orlin Lein of Polk City, and Hans Froland of Huxley.

Burial was made in the cemetery near Kelley.

Oliver Richardson was born in Norway, December 29th, 1857, and died at his home in Slater Thursday, August 24, 1944, at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 26 days. He came to this country in 1866. His marriage to Alice Weeks took place January 6th, 1885. They had no children of their own but had the pleasure of rearing two boys from childhood, namely I. E. Erickson now of Ames, and Harold Richardson now of Hollywood, California.

Mr. Richardson lived in Story county most of his life and was very active in church work, being a charter member of the Bethany church at Kelley. About 25 years ago he moved to Slater and transferred his membership to the Bethlehem Lutheran church.

Mr. and Mrs. Richardson celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary January 6, 1935.

His is survived by his devoted wife and two foster sons and families; one sister Mrs. Sophie Heggen* of Slater and one brother John Richardson of Kelley and a large number of relatives and friends.
