September 14, 1947 - December 4, 2019Melvin Robert Kipp, age 72, of Ames, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
Born on September 14, 1947 in Boone, Melvin was the son of Louis and Alice (Swanson) Kipp. Melvin grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1966. Through his school years, Melvin took pride in being an Eagle Scout.
Following high school, he worked in an upholstery shop in Tipton, Iowa. Melvin then migrated to Iowa City, where he worked many jobs throughout the years. In 1987, Melvin was engaged to Cynthia Leaverton, who passed away shortly after their engagement. He later moved to Ames, where he began working for Old Main as part of the kitchen staff.
Melvin entered Accura Healthcare of Ames, but that did not slow him down. He was a man with overwhelming desire to work and lend a hand. He collected pocket knives and coins, as he was a member of the Ames Coin Club. He had been an active member in his church, Heartland Baptist Church.
He leaves behind his brothers Michael Kipp of Ames and Marvin Kipp of San Antonio, Texas, along with several cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents, Louis and Alice Kipp, and his fiancé Cynthia Leaverton.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Heartland Baptist Church in Ames with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Swede Valley Lutheran Cemetery south of Ogden.
