Margie Mardelle Sogard
August 5, 1931 – November 20, 2019Margie M. Sogard, 88, passed away at Accura Healthcare on November 20, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 25, 2019, at Ascension Lutheran Church (2400 Bloomington Road. Ames, IA 50010). Burial will follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to Ascension Lutheran Church.
Margie was born August 5, 1931 in Rake, Iowa to Clarence and Othelia Torkelson. She graduated from Fertile High School. Margie was the oldest of nine children, with six brothers it was never quiet around in the house. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Sogard on May 6, 1951. Margie enjoyed baking all types of foods, especially wedding cakes, and cooking for her family. She liked to watch ISU sports, play bridge and go bowling. She also enjoyed attending bible study.
Margie is survived by her two daughters: Carla (Bill) Hatten, Lou Ann (John) Norlin; grandchildren, Heather (Jeff) Stickel, Mark (Amber) Hatten, Amy Hatten, Chad Norlin, Ryan (Shanen) Norlin, Jessica Tate, Jasmine (Will) Clyburn and Jenna Tate; great-grandchildren, Sunne and Shea Stickel, Harper Hatten, Brooklyn, Baylee and Bella Blaskovich, Kaesen Tate White and Kaydence and Kalon Clyburn; siblings, Bernice Voelker, Ronald, Leslie and Roger Torkelson and Marsha Brunsvold. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, daughter Lisa, siblings Junior, Carroll and Wayne Torkelson and friend Bob Donavan.
