Ronald Dean Fosse, 78, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa surrounded by his family. A gathering of friends and family will be an hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday October 24, at Bethesda Lutheran Church 1517 Northwestern Ave. Ames, Iowa. Burial will take place at Roland Cemetery.
Ron was a loving father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to everyone. He is survived by his wife Betty (Shumate) of 37 years, five daughters, Kathy Uthe of Roland; Karla Cohen of Zearing; Karen (Steve) Handrich of New Berlin, WI; Step- daughters Megan (Tim) Hoppe and Shana Lee (Kim Larson) of Brainerd, MN; eight grandchildren, four great- grandchildren and many other relatives.
Ron was born with his identical twin, Robert, on November 30, 1940, in Garden City to Alfred and Clarice (Peterson) Fosse. He grew up in Roland where he graduated in 1958 from Roland High School. He married Ellen Curley on November 11, 1960 and then married Betty Shumate on March 9, 1984. Ron and Betty lived in Roland until they moved to Ames in 1988. Ron spent his past ten years wintering in Arizona.
Ron loved being active and enjoyed all sports. He liked wavering a friendly family bet on Indy and NASCAR racing, cheering for the MN Vikings, and supporting the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was an avid pickle ball player in Arizona and Iowa and medaled in the Iowa Games.
Ron was employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation in Advanced Planning from 1967 until he retired in 2002. During retirement he worked many years at the Iowa State Center. He was a member of Arcadia Masonic Lodge 249 AF and AM. Active in the Cyclone Unit Za Ga Zig Shrine, The Story County Shrine Club, Ames York Rite and Scottish Rite of Des Moines.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marlene Piel, older brother Hollis, his twin Bob and his grandson Justin Uthe.
The family asks that donations be made to a charity that touches your heart in lieu of flowers to honor Ron's memory.
