From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:
Stanley Nyle Strum II (Stan or Stubby), 48 of Nevada, Iowa, passed away on November 14, 2019.
Stan was born on October 4, 1971, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. His parents were Stanley N. Strum, I, and Kathleen M. (Klein) Strum. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on January 7, 1972, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in rural Van Meter, Iowa, and confirmed in the same faith on November 3, 1985 at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, Iowa.
Stan attended school at Mitchell Elementary, Granite City, IL, and Nevada Community Schools, Nevada, IA, and graduated from Nevada High School in 1989, and attended Ellsworth Community College where he became a highly skilled mason. Even as an adult after college, he was a master with the mason and flooring projects he tackled. He could walk to a building and see immediately, how previous contractors had taken short-cuts and probably charged full price!
Stan loved football in High School, fishing, golfing, playing guitar, and writing science fiction stories and music. He also loved gambling with his best friend, his father. They would go in together on bets because if it won, it would be a pay day. To this day, we’re not sure if they really were ‘good’ bets. It was fun and that’s really all that matters.
Stan is survived by his son Allan Wright (Genna), his sisters Allison (Craig), Penny (Stephanie), Elisa (Tarek), and brother-in-law Mike Gibson, several nieces and nephews, and his grandchild Ember Elizabeth Wright.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents Stanley Nyle Strum, I, and Kathleen Marie Strum.
Visitation will be at 4:00 p.m., November 26, at Memorial Lutheran Church (701 11th Street), with the funeral following at 6:00 p.m. immediately after with Pastor Duane Miller officiating. Family will greet friends and a light supper following the service in fellowship hall at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada or NAMI National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
