Joseph L. Rhoads, 91 of Collins, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 27 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (422 First Street) in Maxwell. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Reverend Douglas Harding officiating. Private family burial will be at the Collins Evergreen Cemetery.
Joe was born July 29, 1928, in Collins to William and Emma (Thomas) Rhoads. He attended Collins School and enlisted in the United States Air Corps. in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1948. Joe was united in marriage to Alverda Mary Goodrich on January 6, 1950 in Brooklyn, Iowa. The couple lived in Grinnell until moving to Collins in 1956. Joe was a member of the Collins Legion and enjoyed woodworking. He was especially known for his carved wooden ducks.
Joe is survived by his children: Vicki (Terry) Legvold of Charlotte, NC, Merily (Mark) Atwood of Collins, Kelly (Robert) Miller of LaVista, NE and Gregory (Debora) Rhoads of Colo; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers: Carl (in infancy) Charles and Harold; two sisters: Dorothy and Doris; and two grandchildren: Jill Legvold and Trent Miller.
Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
