From Nevada Representative September 7, 1917 (page 1)

MAXWELL YOUTH CALLED BY DEATH

Floyd Thomas Whitney was the eldest son of L. R. and Catherine Whitney. He was born in Polk county, near Maxwell, Iowa, on March 25th, 1900. He made the preparation for life afforded by the country schools. He grew in stature and experience almost to the measure of man. He made partnership with his God and united with the church at Farrar. Then just as he faced the commencement of life as it were, Death lay in ambush for him. He and his father were injured in an accident while building a silo and after a time of apparent improvement he died suddenly on September 2, 1917, at the age of 17 years, 5 month and 7 days.

His father and mother survive together with one brother and four sisters. He had also a host of youthful friends who sincerely mourn him.

The funeral service was held a the Maxwell Methodist church on Tuesday, September 4, conducted by Frank Bean the pastor. A brief service was also held previously at the father's home in Mitchelville. Interment was at the Maxwell cemetery.
