OBITUARY OF MRS. HILL
Funeral Services Held at the U. B. Church in Ames
Special to the Journal.
Ames, July 21--Melissa Elliott, the daughter of James and Matilda Elliott, was born in Stark county, Ohio, March 21, 1857. The family moved to Logan county, Ohio, when she was a little child. They afterward came to Iowa in 1868, settling near Mackey in Boone county, where on March 28, 1872, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Levi Hill. they have resided in Boone and Story county since, except a few years spent in Rush county, Kansas. She is survived by her husband and three children--Mrs. Effie Earsley of Tulsa, Okla; Rose Blanche and Hadley Thomas, at home. One sister--Mrs. Esther Merchant of Boone, and a brother, Charles Ellott of Alexandria, Kan. remain to mourn their loss.Mrs. Hill passed away at the home of her son, seven miles east of Ames, on July 10. She has suffered intensely for the past several months, and has born all her suffering patiently. She was converted and joined the M. E. church when fourteen years of age and changed her membership to the United Brethren church at Ogden when living near there and has since been a member of the U. B. church at Ames until moving to her sons, when she joined the Shipley church.
She was also a loyal member of the W. C. T. U., which organization attended the funeral in a body.
The services were held at the U. B. church in Ames, conducted by Rev. George Miller of Des Moines. Music was rendered by the W. C. T. U. choir. The flowers were many and beautiful silent tributes of love and esteem.
She was tenderly laid to rest in the Ames cemetery.
