Hold Final Services For Mrs. Sabina Day
Funeral services for Mrs. Sabina Day, one of Story County pioneer citizens, who passed away Monday, Sept. 12 at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, were held from the Ryan Funeral home on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 15, with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.
Music soloist was Mrs. Arnold Nernes, accompanied by Mrs. John Day.
Casket bearers were Jimmie Day, Raymond Day, James Hynes, Harold Scott, Carl Switzer and Maurice Wycoff.
Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
Obituary
Mrs. Sabina Day, 405 J ave., Nevada, daughter of William and Emily Handsaker, was born March 7, 1868, and passed away at 11:50 p. m., at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames on Monday evening, Sept. 12, 1949, at the age of 81 years, six months and five days, following a stroke she had suffered on Saturday morning. This was her first illness.
Mrs. Day lived her entire life in Story county with the exception of four years spent in Oklahoma.
At the age of 18, she became a member of the Lutheran church in the country, near Fernald.
She was married to William Day on Dec. 25, 1888, and to this union two sons were born, Roy, who passed away in Flaxville, Mont., and James who lives on his farm, near Shipley.
Survivors
Surviving, besides the son, James, are one sister, Mrs. Nona Hynes, of near Shipley, 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, besides a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Johnny of Colo, William and David of Nevada, Greeley and Harvey of Fernald, and one sister, Ella, who died in infancy.
