Obituary.
Mrs. Eva Matters, wife of J. W Matters died Thursday morning Dec. 7, 1906, at the Methodist hospital at Des Moines, where she had been taken for treatment. Four weeks ago she was taken suddenly ill and was a great sufferer for more than a week when her condition for several days was so much improved that she was able to be up and around the house. Her friends were shocked on Thanksgiving day to learn that she was much worse, and in spite of the best medical skill and her desire to live for her family, death came. She realized her condition and said she was not afraid to die; and was ready to meet her Savior. She tried to sing and sent loving messages to her family. Eva Morain was born in Hensley township, Champaign county, Illinois, Sept.3, 1861, where her youth and girlhood was spent. Feb. 14, 1894 she was united in marriage to J. W. Matters. In 1901 Mr. and Mrs. Matters moved to Milford township where they have since resided. Two children were born to this union, William aged 11 and Herald aged 7, both survive her, also the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Sarah Freziner of Thomasboro, Ills., F. A. Morain of Nevada, Grant and Allen of Minneapolis, Ernest of Hot Springs, Ark., Carrie and Alma Champaign, Ill.
Mrs. Matters was a member of the M. E. church with which she united in her youth and was known as an earnest, devout Christian. She was a dutiful wife, a loving mother and ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of need or trouble. "A precious one from us is gone, a voice we loved is stilled; a place is vacant in our home, that never can be filled."--- from the Nevada Evening Journal - Monday, 12/10/1906 page 8
