OBITUARY OF MRS. TUNGESVIG
Story City Woman Died Suddenly While Visiting.
Special to the Journal.
Story City, June 12--In the recent death of Mrs. John Tungesvig at the home of her son in this city, this part of athe county lost one of its pioneer women. The death of Mrs. Tungesvig was sudden and unexpected. While she had been failing in strength due to her advanced years, she had not been ill and had been visiting for a few days at the home of her son, Martin Townswick in this city. She had retired the evening before feeling in her usual health, but when the faily went to summons her in the morning it was found that the death messenger had called during the night and the spirit had winged its flight.Martha, daughter of Olaf and Rangnild Rorvig was born in Norway July 8, 1841 and died the home of her son, Martin Townswick, west of Story City, May 25, 1923 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 16 days.
She was married to John J. Tungesvig in 1863 and they immigrated to America in 1872 settling on a farm north of Roland where they lived two years and then moved to their farm near Story City. Her husband died in 1906.
Six children were born to her, all surviving and being present at the funeral which was held Tuesday, May 21, in the Bethel church.
The surviving children are Mrs. T. P. Hermanson of Ruthton, Minn., Thomas of Tyler, Minn., Ole of Madison, S. D. and John Lewis and Martin of this place. The five sons and son-in-law acted as pall bearers at the funeral.
Mrs. Tungesvig has one surviving sister who lives in Norway.
