Man Suicided No Cause Known
GEORGE BALLARD VICTIM OF SELF INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUNDS
George Ballard, 59, Ames man, died in a cornfield two miles southeast of there Saturday afternoon, from self-inflicted gunshot wounds according to word reaching Nevada. Coroner D. G. Mills was called but after looking over the situation decided that an inquest was not necessary.
Several farmers husking corn discovered Ballard's body when they hear a shot shortly after they had met him in the field. When they med him Ballard told them he was hunting. He was carrying a 12 gauge single barrel shotgun.
Ballard is supposed to have an estranged wife and family at Omaha. Little is known of him here.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: George Henry Ballard was the son of Elias Ballard and Mahalia Spencer. He married Laura Elizabeth Lee, daughter of Jacob C. Lee Jr. and Cordelia Macy, on 7 April 1897 in Cambridge, Story County, Iowa.
