Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Jennifer Sue Tongay, 38, of Maxwell, Iowa transitioned on September 7, 2019, while receiving excellent care at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, after fighting a six-year battle with spinal cord cancer.

Jennifer was born to James (Jim) and Jeanette (Clark) Tongay, of Maxwell, Iowa on March 5, 1981. She lived with her family in rural Sullivan, Missouri, until the age of 12 when they migrated North to Maxwell, Iowa.

She graduated in 1999 as salutatorian of her class at Collins-Maxwell High School.

Jennifer received her bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University and worked at Cycle Force Group, Ames, Iowa, where she considered her bosses and co-workers as family.

She loved the outdoors where she enjoyed camping, boating, and showing her dad how to catch big fish.

Jennifer loved helping others and tried to do so when she could. She enjoyed spending time with her pride and joy, her son, Aiden. She began teaching him early in life how to enjoy simple pleasures and to always be kind and helpful. Aiden has taken her teachings to heart and has a kind, loving soul just like his mother.

Jennifer is survived by her parents, Jim and Jeanette; sister Jessica (Shawn Furman) Tongay, Nevada, IA; brother Jonathan (Robyn McCreery) Tongay, Ames, IA; brother Justin Tongay, Ankeny, IA; sister Jayme Tongay, Maxwell, IA; son Aiden Solomon, Maxwell, IA; nieces Rhiannah, Rebeckah, Robyn Henry, and nephew Mark (Bubba) Henry, many uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends that will dearly miss her.

During the last two months after receiving the terminal diagnosis Jennifer spent time with relatives and friends at two Celebrations of Life, one in Illinois, and one in Maxwell, Iowa. For this reason, as per her request there will be no funeral or memorial service. She wants those that love her to remember her with a smile on her face and her tongue sticking out.

Jennifer’s last gift to humanity is given by donating her body to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where the care team that she loved so much is located. She requested that they use her body to further their research into this horrible disease.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home in Ames and online condolences may be left for Jennifer’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com.
