Oliver P. Abbey Laid to Rest In Zearing Cemetery

Zearing, July 19 -- Funeral services for Oliver Perry Abby, who passed away Thursday, July 10, were held at the Evangelical U. B. church in Zearing Sunday, July 13 with the Rev. C. L. Fuller officiating.

Oliver P. Abbey, son of Perry and Amelia Abbey, was born at Cropsey, Illinois on January 29, 1869 and passed away at 2:15 p. m. on July 10, 1947 at the age of seventy-eight years, five months and eleven days.

On February 20, 1895, he married Miss Margaret Susan Turpening of Pontiac, Illinois. Two children, Mrs. Esther Larson of Des Moines and Jess L. Abbey of Zearing were born to them.

Mr. and Mrs. Abbey located on a farm near Webster City, soon after their marriage, where they lived for three years. Then they came to the Zearing community and moved into Zearing in 1917, where they made their home until after Mrs. Abbey passed away in 1937. Since then he has spent his time with the daughter at Des Moines and son, Jess at Zearing. He is survived by his son and daughter and three grandchildren, who are Miss Marjorie Abbey of Des Moines, and Keith and Roger of Zearing.

He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Des Moines.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Larson and Marjorie Abbey of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Abbey of Hayfield, Minn., Mrs. G. E. Tedelty of Nora Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Schuler and Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Morse of Marshalltown and Mr. Norman Dobson of Nevada.
