Funeral Services for Mrs. Frances Bixby
Maxwell, June 25 -- Funeral services for Mrs. Frances Bixby, 93, who died Saturday morning following a stroke, were held Monday at 10:30 at the Dr. Wm. G. Joor home, with the Rev. David S. deBest officiating. Burial was made in the family lot at Cedar Rapids.
Frances Melissa Smith was born March 8, 1853, at Terre Haute, Ind., and passed away Saturday, June 15, 1946, in Maxwell, Ia. Her early life was spent in Chicago where she was married to Wm. Edward Bixby. Later they moved to Cedar Rapids where her husband passed away in the year 1900 and also a daughter Mabel three years old. After the death of husband she and her two small children made their home with her son, James Williams Bixby, at Sioux City, who passed away at Evanston, Ill. in 1940. Her later years were spent in the homes of her son, Glen E. Bixby, at Sioux City an with her daughter, Mrs. Wm. G. Joor at Charles City and Maxwell. She is survived by her son and daughter and six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
