From Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Janice Marie Whaley, 67, of Clarion, formerly of Maxwell, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 8 at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home (422 First Street) in Maxwell. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. also at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Swanberg officiating.

Jan was born August 9, 1951 in Ames, the daughter of Floyd and Christie (Skola) Logsdon. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1969 and earned her Associates Degree from AIB. On February 18, 1972, Jan was united in marriage to Dennis Whaley at the Maxwell United Methodist Church of which she was a member.

Jan worked 21 years for the Story County Hospital in medical billing and 25 years as an office assistant for Farm Bureau in Nevada, retiring in 2016. She was very involved with Farm Bureau in Story and Polk Counties. Jan had served as Past District Governor for the Lions Club and was an active member of the Maxwell Legion Auxiliary. Over the years, Jan and Dennis opened their home to 29 foreign exchange students. She enjoyed gardening and supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her grandchildren kept her very busy with activities and she loved to support them in everything they did.

Jan is survived by her husband, Dennis of Clarion; her daughter, Kim Pohlman (Rick Cope) of Clarion; her son, Mark Whaley of Baxter; her step-daughter, Chris (Larry) Turner of Indiana; her bothers: Tom Logsdon of Ankeny and Jay (Sue) Logsdon of Maxwell; her sister, Julie (Mike) McCord of Ankeny; and her grandchildren: Courtney McHone, Tyler (Destyne) Webb, Gemma Pohlman, Keegan Pohlman, Jaxun Pohlman, Avery Whaley and Mason Whaley. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Story County Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
