Darrel Lee Moses, 85, of Mesa, Arizona went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 22, 2019.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 2, at the Collins United Methodist Church (225 3rd Avenue) in Collins with Rev. Douglas Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Collins Evergreen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Freland-Carver Legion Post #81. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Darrel was born in Collins (Story County) Iowa on October 22, 1933 to Ralph John and Anna Eliza Moses. He graduated from high school in Collins in 1952. He married his second grade sweetheart, Constance (Joy) Milligan, December 28, 1952 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Collins. Shortly after, he served in the Army in the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in an ammunition depot in Sanpenne, France.
After the service, he returned to the family farm in Collins. From 1965 to 1987 he operated Moses Mobile Feed Service. Darrel and Joy moved to Mesa, AZ where he worked for America West Airlines in the galley department as lead technician. He retired in 2001 and stayed active in the airline’s employee retirement organization.
Darrel was an active member of the community. He served as 4H leader for 26 years and a member of the American Legion for 61 years. He was a long time member of the Collins fire department and held local and state positions in the Lions Club.
Darrel was also an enthusiastic member of his church. In the Collins Evangelical United Brethren Church, he served in various positions, from member of the Board of Trustees, to Sunday School Superintendent. At Mesa Velda Rose United Methodist Church, Darrel continued to be an active member,from volunteering wherever needed, to President of the Men’s group.
Darrel enjoyed being part of the photography and computer clubs in his retirement community, Dreamland Villa. He loved his dune buggy, taking family and friends for rides, and decorating and driving in many parades. Darrel and Joy loved to travel and being with family and friends. Darrel loved to visit and never knew a stranger.
Darrel was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Constance; children: Bradford (Deborah), Anthony (Barbara), Merridee Isabelle (William). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Andrew (Tara), Aaron (Kristin), Eric (Emily), Bradford (Sarah), and Brian (Allison); great-grandchildren: Brooke, Jake, and Paige Moses, Lexi and Brynley Moses, Aubrey and Henry Moses, Logan and Tanner Moses, Braxton and Maddox Moses; and sibling Ralph (Bob) Moses.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sibling, John (Richard) Moses.
