Mrs. Oliver Shearer Died At Waterloo

Word was received here this morning advising of the death on Sunday morning at 6:20 of Mrs. J. Oliver Shearer, 40, of Waterloo, wife of Oliver Shearer, former residents of Nevada.

Mrs. Shearer died in a hospital there after a short illness. She was born in Collins on January 24, 1896, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Carver and grew to womanhood in the Collins neighborhood.

She was married to J. Oliver Shearer at the home of her parents on June 12, 1916 and to their union five children were born. Two daughters, Mary Jean and Peggy, died in infancy and two sons, Oliver, Jr., 18, and Keith Elwood, 15, an one daughter, Margie Lou, 6, together with her husband survive her. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Jesse Torry and Bessie Carver of Collins and Mrs. Leonard Clement of Waterloo and two brothers, William and Harry Carver of Collins.

Mrs. Shearer was a member of the Methodist church of Collins and of Nevada chapter No. 296, O.E.S., as well as the American Legion auxiliary. She had been actively identified with the civic and social affairs of Collins during her residence there, as well as in Nevada, while the family home was here.

The Shearers had moved to Waterloo only this fall where Mr. Shearer was in business. The body will be returned to Collins and the funeral and interment will probably be at Collins on Tuesday.
