OBITUARY IN THE DECEMBER 21, 1899 NEVADA REPRESENTATIVE

Died at his residence in Richland Township, Story County, Iowa December 20, 1899 of an affection of the lungs, John P. Corbin, aged 51 years, 5 months and 27 days.

Mr. Corbin was born in the start of Ohio, June 23, 1848; removed to Iowa with his parents in 1853 when 5 years of age. In 1870 was married to Mary Hubbard who survives him. Eight children were born to them, of whom three are still living to mourn the loss of a beloved father. In the community in which Mr. Corbin spent the greater part of his life he was honored and respected by all. He served as a soldier in the Civil War for thirteen months and was a member of the GAR post at Colo. The members of the post were present and assisted at his funeral, his old comrades acting as pall bearers. The funeral services were held at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, conducted by his friend and neighbor of 30 years, Rev. J. A. Smay, assisted by Rev. A. B. Shrader. The universal esteem in which the deceased was held was shown by the large concourse of sympathizing friends who followed his remains to their last resting place.

John P. Corbin was a younger brother of Albert G. Corbin. He served in the lst Cavalry Regiment, G Company. Enlisted at age 16. Residence, Hamilton County, native, Ohio. Enlisted November 24, 1864. Mustered November 24, 1864. Mustered out November 26, 1865 at Austin, Texas at expiration of service.
