Dorothy Marie Severtson 97, of McCallsburg, Iowa passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. Her funeral service will immediately follow and will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kathy Sandmann officiating. Burial will follow in the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg, Iowa.
Dorothy was born November 3, 1921 in Zearing, Iowa to Earl and Alice (McVitty) Culbertson. She grew up in Zearing and graduated from Zearing High School with the class of 1939. Dorothy married Orville Vallem on March 23, 1943 in McCallsburg. She and Orville had their beloved daughter Susan Marie in 1948.
Dorothy was a fantastic homemaker and mother. After Orville's death she married Joris Severtson on August 22, 1959. Dorothy was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Dorothy delighted in spending time with her daughter, granddaughters and grandchildren. She loved shopping, being a friend, and caring for others. Dorothy loved being the oldest resident living in her home in McCallsburg and took great pride in caring for her house and yard. Dorothy was always full of fun and laughter... always ready for an adventure and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the community.Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Susan Cook of Ankeny, IA; step-children Susan (Denny) Bauman of Lewistown, MT, and Wayne (Nancy) Severtson of Marion, IA; grandchildren Michelle (David) Arteberry of Leawood, KS, and Jamie (Bill) Porter of Pleasant Hill, IA; great-grandchildren Ava Porter, Jacob Porter, Samuel Arteberry, and Noah Arteberry; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers Ralph and Eber Culbertson, son-in-law James Cook, and sister Esther Vallem. Also step-children JoAnn DeMoss and Jerroll Severtson.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa.
