OBITUARIES
Clara 'Vonis' Parrich
June 17, 1922 - July 4, 2014
"Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a lovely mother is the greatest gift of them all."
Clara Vonis Parrish, 92, of Boone and formerly of Nevada, departed this life peacefully on Friday, July 4, 2014, at the Eastern Star Home in Boone, Iowa.
Vonis was born June 17, 1922, in Boone, to George and Helen (Bebee) Anderson. She graduated from Boone High School an Boone Jr. College and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where she was a Sergeant in the motor transport division stationed in San Diego, California. On November 23, 1945, Vonis married Dr. Clifford R. Parrish and moved to Nevada, Iowa, where they opened and operated the Nevada Veterinary Clinic for over 40 years. Vonis managed the office and acted as vet assistant at the clinic and was mother to four children, Ellen, Dawn, Paul and Mike. She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, cooking, and music. Vonis was Mom to anyone that dame to her table. She was a brownie leader, a Mother Adviser to the Nevada Rainbow Girls, and a member of the Eastern Star for many years. her family was her focal point and she will be greatly missed by her loving family. Her husband C. R. died in July of 1987. In June, 1994, she married Clayton Lokken. They loved to travel and dance and she adored her beloved pet poodle "Dolly". She was a member of the Nevada Presbyterian Church. Vonis moved to the Eastern Star Home after suffering a broken hip in April of 2012.
Vonis is survived by her children, Ellen Becvar of Nevada, Iowa; Dawn (Rick) Meade Geppert of Walker, Minnesota; Paul (Konnie) Parrish of Boone, and Michael (Marsha) Parrich of Isanti, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her husbands, C.R. Parrish in July, 1987, and Clayton Lokken in January, 2014; her parents George and Helen Anderson; her brothers Vernal Anderson and Don Anderson; and one grandson Patrick (Rick) Meade.
A Funeral service will be Friday, July 11, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone with Taps and folding and presentation of the American Flag. Please join out family for visitation at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone on Thursday, July 10, from 2 to 8 p.m. with family being present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the funeral chapel on Friday after 8 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nevada American Legion Flag fund r the Story County Animal Shelter.
"Grief is the price we pay for loving... and Mom was truly loved by her children, their spouses, her grandchildren, extended family, friends, and neighbors. We know it is not possible for everyone to share this day with us to honor Mom. However, Mom would be pleased it you could say a prayer, or pass along a kind word or deed."
