Arlene L. Oakes
Oct. 26, 1924, to Oct. 17, 2002Arlene L. Oakes, 77, of Zearing, died Thursday, Oct. 17, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of cardiac arrest.
She was born Oct. 26, 1924, in Eldora to Henry and Alma (Ziebell) Herbrechtsmeier. A lifelong resident of Zearing, she married Asher Oakes on march 19, 1945, in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and housewife and had also worked at the Colonial Manor in Zearing as a cook. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 116 of Zearing and a member of the Sorosis Club of Zearing.
Survivors include her husband, Asher, of Zearing; one son, Jim (and Reda) Oakes of rural Zearing; one daughter, Beth (and Clark) Lawler of Eldora; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry (and Olive) Herbrechtsmeier of Garden City and Adolph (and Elizabeth) Herbrechtsmeier of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 21, at Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg. Burial was in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing. Fredregill Funeral Home, Zearing, handled arrangements.
