Rites Held For Sarah Griffith

MAXWELL--Funeral services for Sarah Elizabeth Griffith were held in the Maxwell Methodist church Sunday, Oct. 4th at 2:30 with the Rev. Hall officiating. The many beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Fred Foster and Mrs. Fred Alverson.

Mrs. Jean Mohler sang with Jean Dystra at the piano the following songs: "The Old Rugged Cross," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Casket bearers were Glen Scott, Bill Price, Ora Groseclose, John Lee, Henry Thornwall and Horace Scott.

She was laid to rest in the Center Grove Cemetery.

Obituary

Sarah Elizabeth Griffith, daughter of Thomas and Clarisse Hopper was born on March 4th, 1888 at Humansville, Missouri, and departed this life at her home in Maxwell, Iowa, on Thursday night, October 1, 1953.

In 1907 she moved to Nevada, Ia. with her folks and spent the remainder of her life in this vicinity.

She was a member of the Baptist church of Humansville, Missouri. Sarah was known as a person being thoughtful of her neighbors and was always willing to give a helping and assisting hand.

She spent much of spare time working in her garden tending her yard and endless hours working with her flowers which she loved so much.

She was united in marriage to Frank Griffith on February 8, 1909. She spent her entire married life in Center Grove Community until two years ago when they retired from the farm and moved into the town of Maxwell. To this union were born three children: Homer of Cambridge, Iowa, Sarah Marie of Des Moines, Iowa, and Hugh Wesley who gave his life in World War II.

She leaves to mourn her passing five brothers: Henry of Marshalltown, Ia., George of Randolph, Wis., Clyde of Sebeka, Minn., William of Cambridge, Ia., and Edgar and Harry of Des Moines, Ia. and three grandchildren, William, Wesley Griffith, son of Home H. Griffith and Larry and Donald, children of Sarah Marie Wilson. Two sisters, Clara and Ettie, preceeded her in death.
