Final Rites for Former Story Co. Man at Graetiinger

McCallsburg, May 7 -- Funeral services for Harry Malmin of Graettinger, who passed away Monday morning August 39, at the Emmetsburg hospital from a heart attack, were held fro the Lutheran church at Graettinger Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Masted in charge. Music was furnished by a ladies quintet who sang "Near to the Heart of God" and "Jesus Is All The World To Me." A number of gifts of money were given by relatives and friends to missions. Friends of the deceased were pallbearers and burial was at Graettinger.

Harry Malmin, son of Maurits and Karen Malmin, was born February 5, 1878, near Stavanger, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed away in a hospital at Emmetsburg April 29, 1946, at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 24 days.

He came to America with his parents in 1881 and lived a few years near Roland, Iowa. They then moved to McCallsburg where he attended rural schools and later he started farming.

In 1905, Mr. Malmin left this community for Graettinger, where he continued to farm until several years ago when he made his home in Graettinger. He was employed at various occupations until health began to fail him a few years ago.

Mr. Malmin was a man of industry and honesty. He was one who made many friends. He never married.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister to died in infancy, an older sister, Mrs. O. C. Hougen, and a younger brother, Adolph Malmin. Surviving him are two brothers, Gehard [sic] of McCallsburg and Martin of Minneapolis, and three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Olson and Mrs. Clara Egenes of McCallsburg, and Mrs. Laura Grimsley of Chicago, together with many relatives and friends by whom he will be most kindly remembered.

Those from here who attended the funeral were G. M. Malmin, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Egenes and Harold and Helen, Jeffrey Hougen and Obed Olson, Inga and Harvey Lura of Roland and M. K. Malmin of Minneapolis were also present.
