Clifford Blaine Wobig, 89, of Ames, Iowa passed away on May 10, 2019 due to complications from late stage Parkinson's Disease. Clifford was born in Canova, South Dakota on June 3, 1929 to Jenny and William C. Wobig. He grew up on a farm just outside Salem, South Dakota and graduated from Canova High School in 1947. Clifford was the youngest of three children, he was preceded in death by his brother Vernon Wobig of Sioux Falls, SD., and his sister Phyllis Slattery of Plymouth, MN. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953 and was stationed in Colorado Springs, CO at Fort Carson. After the Army he enrolled in mechanical engineering at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota where he met Donna Mae Caldwell and the couple married in Brookings in 1960. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on June 11th of this year. Cliff worked as a project engineer for Sundstrand Corporation. The company moved his family from Illinois to Ames in 1971, to open the new Sundstrand plant in Ames where he continued to work as a Senior Project Engineer until his retirement in 1989.

Cliff and Donna have two sons, Loren (Tracey) of Springfield, IL and Kevin (Kassi) of Ames and, four granddaughters; Kendall, Shalynn, Kaia and Kaylee. Cliff was devoted to his family, his church, and his relationship with God. He donated his time and efforts at Campus Baptist Church over 4 decades in many ways.

He was a prolific blood donor at Mary Greeley Medical Center and gave many gallons in the span of 3 decades until he could no longer donate, he saw this as his Christian responsibility to serve his fellow man.

He always planted and tended a vegetable garden each year and truly enjoyed working in his yard or garden at any chance and would often share from growing an abundance of garden produce.

After retirement Cliff enjoyed going to garage sales with only his keys and $1 in his pocket to hunt for his, "treasure of the week." He collected an entire room full of toy cars, trucks and tractors of every size, and had a wall covered in lunch boxes. He was also a prolific coin and stamp collector all his adult life. He was a big reader his whole life and liked to fish and spend time outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Mother and both siblings.

A gathering time will be 4-6:00 p.m. Friday, May 17 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa; with a 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18 funeral service at Crossroads Baptist Church, 57011 Us Highway 30, Ames, Iowa. Burial will take place at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

His family request that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or MICA (Mid-Iowa Community Action).
