Obituary

Barbara Jean Ruckman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Ruckman, Sr., was born Nov. 29, 1933 on the farm near McCallsburg, where the family resides.

She attended school in McCallsburg and was a member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian church.

She had suffered from rheumatic fever and heart complications at different times in her short life, but seemed to be getting along very well until she suffered a serious attack last February from which she was unable to recover.

She was a Blank Memorial hospital in Des Moines for a time, then returned home where she enjoyed the loving care of her step-mother, other members of the family and neighbors.

Her condition made it necessary for her to return to the hospital, however, and in July she was moved to the Children's hospital in Iowa City where the services of heart specialists were available.

Medical science was unable to restore her health and she passed away in Iowa City, Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the age of 15 years, 10 months and 26 days.

Her mother had preceded her in death in 1945.

Survivors

Barbara is survived by her father and step-mother; a sister, Mrs. Hallie Swenson of Des Moines; a brother, Claude, Jr., of McCallsburg, and many classmates in school.

Relatives here for the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zerkel and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zerkel of Humansville, Mo., Mrs. J. D. Stone of Flemmington, Mo., Miss Jennie Zerkel of Boone and many friends from Marshalltown, Zearing, Nevada and Boone.
