OBITUARY
N. J. NELSEN.
N. J. Nelsen, prominent farmer residing west of Nevada in Grant township, died at his home Saturday forenoon, his death coming suddenly at a time hen the question was under consideration whether a further operation would serve to save his life. He has been long an invalid, and lately gangrene had developed in a way to make his condition obviously critical. The amputation of the other leg that was proposed when death intervened.
Mr. Nelson was born at Seign, Denmark, August 7, 1847, emigrated from Denmark directly to Story county in 1869, and died as stated March 3, 1917, aged 69 years, 6 months and 24 days. Arriving in this county at a time when this county was just beginning to develop, he exercised thrift and industry, acquired one piece of land after another forged ahead as a representative and successful farmer and manifested himself in every respect an example of the adopted citizenry of this country. He was known, recognized and respected. He is survived by his four children, his sons Henry and Fred and his daughters, Mrs. Tena Kinsman and Mrs. Laura Hansen, all residents of the old home neighborhood.
His funeral was conducted Monday afternoon from the Lutheran church by the pastor, Rev. F. R. Shirck.
