David L. Funk passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday March 16 2019 at Israel Family Hospice in Ames Iowa.

Dave was born in Boston Massachusetts on March 7, 1955. His family moved numerous times as his father was a Methodist Minister serving in the US Army. They finally settled in the St. Louis area where, in 1973, Dave graduated from Webster Groves High School. He later attended Merrimac Community College and then went on to the University of Missouri in Columbia where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Directly out of college he was recruited by Lorillard Tobacco Company as a sales representative, was later promoted, and moved to Des Moines Iowa. He worked for Lorillard through September of 1995. Dave worked briefly at Industrial Plating in Ames. It was in February of 1998 when he took a position with Motorcycle Stuff, that he was able to combine his passion for motorcycling with his dream job as an outside sales representative. He moved on to Tucker Rocky Distributing in October of 2004 and retired in May of 2014. After he retired Dave worked part time for Adam’s Cycles in Nevada Iowa.

He met his wife, Jane Kennedy, in February of 1990. They married in October of 1996. Dave’s biggest passion was motorcycling. He introduced his wife to the joys of riding the road less traveled. They took many trips together, riding two-up, fully loaded with camping gear to motorcycle rallies over much of the country. Through his many travels me made life long friends. He may not have remembered their names, but he never forgot their motorcycle.

Dave is survived by his wife Jane, their dog Elliott, his parents Dave and Mary Funk of Georgia, his sister Jennifer Lloyd of Massachusetts and her sons Evan and James, his brother Stephen Funk of North Carolina, his sister Debbie Sywak and her sons Christopher and Michael of Georgia.

There will be no visitation however a celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 22 at the Saylorville Resevoir, Cherry Glen Shelter #6. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Story County Animal Shelter or the National Motorcycle Safety Fund.
