Services For Story City Business Man Held Saturday, Dec. 16

Funeral services were held in Story City for Alex Henderson, former veteran business man in Story City on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 16. Mr. Henderson died in Onawa Dec. 13.

Services were held from the Larson-Peterson funeral home with the Rev. S. T. Nelson officiating, and later at the St. Petri church. Mrs. Robert Kenny sang. Acting as pall bearers were Louis Frandsen, Bert Hill, Theodore Frandsen, T. Z. Henryson, Magne Idse and Selid Overland.

Alexander Henderson was born on the Henderson homestead in Hamilton county on Feb. 6, 1872, the son of Lars and Sarah Henryson. He attended the rural schools, Commercial college in Des Moines and later the embalming school in Omaha, having the distinction of being the only licensed embalmer in Story and adjoining counties at that time.

Married in 1897

In 1897 he married Mabel Tendeland. Three children were born to this union, Lester, Grace, Mrs. Jack Goessele of Winnetka, Ill., and Mrs. Beatrice Moen of Onawa.

In 1898 Mrs. Henderson became a partner in the Jondall and Henderson furniture company, which later became the Henderson furniture company. During his years as a business man here, he was active in civic life of the community acting as mayor, city council member, school board member and other organizations.

Business in Ames

In the early thirties, he entered the furniture business in Ames. After retiring, he and his wife returned to Story City where they lived until 1959 when, because of failing health, they moved to Onawa to be near their daughter.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters; two brothers, A. M. Henderson of Northfield, Minn., and Judge O. G. Henderson of Webster City; two sisters Mrs. E. L. Ericson of Story City and Mrs. Maggie Sowers of Randall; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
