October 31, 1955 - January 27, 2019

Grace Corder, age 63, of Nevada, died Sunday, January 27, 2019, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Heartland Baptist Church, 3333 Stange Road, in Ames, with Pastor Shane Rader officiating. Inurnment will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery at a later date. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the church.

Born October 31, 1955, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Grace Lucille (Vance) Corder was the daughter of Jack and Lucille (Harmon) Vance.

On September 10, 2001, Grace was married to Roger Corder in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made their home in Nevada, Iowa. Grace worked as a cook for over 20 years at various area establishments, including Iowa State University, Prairie Meadows, and the Nevada Middle School.

She was an active member of Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, serving in many capacities including the Outreach and Good Neighbor Ministries, café, and funeral committee. Grace loved her bountiful flower and vegetable gardens and also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels. Watching the pelican migration was a favorite pastime. Grace also loved to cook for family and friends and possessed an extensive cookbook collection, although she never made the same dish twice.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; her mother, Lucille Vance of Bondurant; two sons, Chris Rudkin and Jason Rudkin; three step-children, Jared Corder, Kelly (John) Spears, and Corey Corder; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Phyllis Fliss of Des Moines, Jim (Sue) Vance of Des Moines, and Connie (Les) Sprague of Hartford; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her father; a granddaughter, Alexis Rudkin; and a brother, Jack Paul Vance.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Grace and her family.
