Obituaries
Mrs. Arthur Hovick
Funeral services for Mrs. Arthur Hovick, 83, longtime resident of Story City, were held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 27 at two o'clock at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. C. A. Gisselquist officiated.
Mrs. Charles Jewell and Mrs. Paul Nelson sang, "Blessed Assurance" and "My Faith Look Up to Thee" in duets, accompanied by Mrs. Harold Olson at the organ. Pallbearers were Harlan Nassen, Harlan Tjelmeland, William Tjelmeland, Jr., Clifford Tjelmeland, Talmer Tjelmeland and Dwayne Tjelmeland. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Mrs. Hovick passed away Thursday, Jan. 25 at Story City Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient six weeks. She had been in ill health for several years.
Rillie, the daughter of Rudolph and Anna Nassen, was born October 20, 1889 in Hamilton County, southwest of Radcliffe, Iowa. There she spent her girlhood attending school and the Lutheran church into which she was baptized and confirmed.
In 1908, she was united in marriage to Bennie Pederson, who preceded her in death in 1935. To this union was born two daughters and one son. Several years later, she married William Henrickson. He died Feb. 2, 1945.
In 1947, she was married to Miles Thorson. He died in 1958. She married Arthur Hovick in 1963. Survivors include her husband, Arthur, two daughters, Burdella (Mrs. Arnold Peterson) of Story City and Arlene (Mrs. Kenneth Kriner) of Des Moines, fourteen stepchildren, John and Harold Hovick of Roland, Milo and Richard Hovick of Branson, Missouri, Raymond and Theroy Hovick and Alvina (Mrs. Ole G. Olson) of Story City, Olive (Mrs. Mons Teig) of Ellsworth, Onel, Jeffrey and Arlie Thorson of Ames, Maxine (Mrs. Milo Hovick) of Branson, Missouri, Mazel (Mrs. Donald G. Johnson), Story City, and Iona (Mrs. Jerald Lenning) of Ames, two grandchildren, and five great grandsons. Also five sisters Mrs. Caroline Shefland, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Ruth A. Howard, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mrs. Bertha Tjelmeland, Story City, Mrs. Ora Tjelmeland of Nevada, and Mrs. Theresa Housten of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by one son, two brothers and one sister.
