Last Rites Sunday For Mrs. Sam A. Swenson In Lutheran Church
Final rites were conducted for Mrs. Sam Swenson on Sunday, at 3 p.m., Jan. 28, from the Memorial Lutheran church with the Rev. E. P. Windman officiating. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.
Leslie Henderson presided at organ and accompanied Dick Couser as sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Good Night Here and Good Morning Up There."
Casket bearers were Junior Swenson, Bob Cooper, Harley Meyer, Art Larson, Jr., Le Verne Alvestad and Truman K. Skrovig. Many gifts of money from relatives and friends were given in memory of Mrs. Swenson.
Born in Norway
Betsey Maria Wicks, daughter of Peter and Gertrude Wicks, was born in Bergen, Norway on April 13, 1865, and came to America with her parents at the age of eight.
The family lived in La Salle county, Ill., where she was confirmed in the Lutheran church. She grew to womanhood and was united in marriage to Sam Andrew Swenson in the same Lutheran church.
The couple established their home on a farm, and later, with the family of three children, came to Hamilton county, Iowa, where they lived on a farm north of Roland.
In 1919 they moved to Nevada and for the last 31 years Mrs. Swenson had live din her home at 823 Second street, until the time of her death, Jan. 25, 1951.
Always a devoted and loving mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, one son and two daughters.
Surviving
Left to mourn her death are four daughters, Birdella and Cecelia at home, Mrs. L. A. Hanson of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Iver Skrovig of Dows; one son, Keneal K. Swenson of Nevada; 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Attending the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Iver Skrovig and Mr. and Mrs. Truman Skrovig of Dows, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Meyer of Webster City, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Koop, John, Twyla Ann and Yvonne and Mr. and Mrs. Le Verne Alvestad and Gene of Kamrar, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Alvestad and Mrs. Clinton Hanson of Blairsburg, Mrs. Helen Jean of Oakland, Minn., Tom Wicks and Mr. and Mrs. Selmer Wicks, James and Ethel of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Ray Brown and Barbara and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Winebrenner of Des Moines, Mrs. Lucille King and Ellen of Kenosha, Wis.,a nd Mrs. L. A. Hanson of Pasdena, Calif.
