Hold Final Rites for Severt K. Severson
Funeral services for S. K. Severson were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 23, at the Elim Lutheran church in Randall, following a short prayer service at the Henderson Funeral home in Story City, and the Rev. A. J. Bringle in charge. Rev. G. O. Paulsrud also responded with a short talk.
The casket bearers were T. Z. Henryson, Ed Erickson, John Larson, Tom Larson, Selmer Stevenson and Herbert Halleland. Music was furnished by Mrs. O. J. Sopeland. The men's quartete, Robert Sopeland, Frederick Larson, Lloyd Okland and Judean Brekken, rendered two hymns, "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God to Thee."
Obituary
Severt K. Severson was born in Skaanevig, Norway, March 27, 1874, and passed away at the Alexian Brothers hospital in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 20 at the age of 74 years, eight months and 23 days.
He came to this country from Norway at the age of 17 years and employed near Morris, Ill., for several years. He returned to Norway twice on visits, the latter being in 1909.
In 1909 he was married to Randi Tvedten. The following year they came to America and since had made their home in Story and Hamilton counties. To this union four children were born, Marie Lawrence, Jeanette Layton, Selmer and Alvina Dewall.
Mr. Severson left Randall on Dec. 11 for Chicago to spend the holidays, the first in 11 years. He was taken suddenly ill Saturday evening, Dec. 18, and was rushed to the hospital, where everything was done, but all in vain.
He was a member of the Elim Lutheran church at Randall.
Survivors
Surviving are his four children: Marie Lawrence of Chicago, Jeanette Layton of Stratford, Selmer of Randall and Alvina Dewall of Chicago, three grandchildren of Chicago, and two nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Randi who passed away on Nov. 17, 1928, his parents; three sisters and two brothers.
