From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:
Carolyn Veryl Frederick, age 77, of Ogden, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at the Accura Healthcare Center in Ogden, Iowa. Memorial Service will be at the Ogden Accura Healthcare Center in Ogden February 12 at 1:00 pm. Ashes burial will take place in the Wyuka Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska at a later date.
Carolyn was born on August 11, 1941 at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Gerald E. and Betty E. Frederick, both deceased. She graduated from Northeast High School in Lincoln in 1960, following her graduation she continued her education at the University of Nebraska, obtaining her Bachelor’s degree in 1964 and Post Graduate Work in Medical Records. She served as a Head of Medical Records in several hospitals of Chicago, IL. She loved to travel which included Europe and the Holy Land. She was actively involved in hosteling and bicycling until her health limited her. A downturn in her health caused her to move to Ames, IA about 45 years ago where she could be close to family. She worked for Blue Cross and worked hard for the insured to get the help they needed. She was active in various churches and was active in volunteering. She was a fierce advocate for the mentally ill. Her caring for others and excellent memory of names and events, amazed her fellow residents, caretakers, and family. As a rarity in our current times, she maintained long term friendships even when separated by many miles. She was a frequent customer of Hobby Lobby. Hand Beaded art work was her last contributions to the people around her. As she was 5 yeas older than her brother James R. she served as supplemental mother and was his cheer leader and helped him excel in a wide variety of way including 4-H activities such as baking and food judging. She fought for the medical rights of her mother. The depth of caring which caused others to reciprocate is illustrated by her decades of friendship with Sally Logsdon who became like family. She always put others first and came to the defense of the weak.
Survivors include her brother; James R. Frederick and his wife Mary, Mike and Katharine (Frederick) Bodan, Cousins Alan Braun, Janice (Braun), June (Frederick) Ost, David Frederick and distant relative Amanda (Frederick) Kramer and family.
