William (Bill) L. Craig, 96, died peacefully in his home in New York City on December 28, 2019. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019, at 3:00 pm at St. Peter’s Church, 619 Lexington Avenue, New York City. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Bertha Bartlett Library, 503 Broad Street, Story City, Iowa.
Bill was born on July 23, 1922, to William A. and Evelyn (Valen) Craig at his home in Story City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bill graduated from Story City High School in 1940 and attended Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa, majoring in Architecture. During WWII, he sang in USO productions.
Bill was a gifted musician and composer, and enjoyed a distinguished career in real estate with Previews and Sotheby’s International Realty, buying and selling some of the most illustrious properties throughout the world. He supported countless charities and cultural organizations, first of all the Little Orchestra Society, where he served as President and then President Emeritus. His family and friends mourn his loss.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Little Orchestra Society, 630 9th Avenue, Suite 807, New York City, New York 10036, or to a charity of the donor's choice in memory of William Craig.
