Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Maxwell Kristian Bovenmyer, born July 12, 2011 in Ames, Iowa, passed away December 22, 2018 at home, surrounded by his devoted family.

Because of complications at birth, Max’s life could have ended the day it began. However, Max’s family and his many friends were blessed by his life for the next seven and a half years. Despite being confined to a wheelchair with numerous physical limitations and abilities to communicate, Max still enjoyed listening to music and stories, being outside, going for walks, being around other children, and especially riding around town on his wheelchair transport bike.

Max had a different way of being a kid. When Max was around everything seemed magical and the world was just a little extra beautiful, making those around him feel calm and happy. Max had a way of changing everything, though few people noticed what he was up to. Max liked it that way. He did not need to be the center of attention. He knew where he came from and where he was going. At times it was hard for him to live in his body and he would withdraw into his beautiful inner world of imagination and mystery. His life impacted all those who came to know and love him with his priceless smile and quiet ways.

He will be missed by his friends at Childserve, Meeker School, the public library, Downtown Farmers Market, and Bandshell Park.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents, Mark and Christine Bovenmyer, sister Lily and brother Maximilian of Ames, IA, grandparents Richard and Linda Korthels of George, IA, and David and Dawn Bovenmyer of Ames, IA. and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be held at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Ames, 1015 N. Hyland Ave., Ames, Iowa from 1-4 PM, Wednesday, December 26. Funeral service will be located at Stonebrook Community Church, 3611 Eisenhower Ave., Ames, Iowa, Thursday, December 27, at 10:30 AM. Private burial will take place on Friday, December 28.

Memorial gifts can be given to assist in laying Max to rest, to Gillette Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2526, 200 University Ave. East, St. Paul, MN 55101, or to the Childserve Foundation at Childserve.org.
