Funeral Services Held Jan. 15 for Rolland F. Philpot
Rolland F. Philpot, Story County Assessor for the past 13 years, died suddenly at his hoe at 1324 J Ave. Saturday evening, the victim of a heart attack at the age of 51.
The son of Franklin and Eva Philpot, he was born March 24, 1911 in Chapin (Franklin County, Iowa). He had been a resident of Nevada for the past 12 years.
Philpot was a graduate of the Chapin, Ia. high school and of Cornell College. He taught school for one year at St. Anthony, farmed northeast of Zearing for several years, and was named assessor of Story County Jan. 1, 1950.
He was married to Miss Theda Crain April 5, 1936 at Zearing, Ia. he was a member of the Nevada Rotary Club, Nevada Lodge No. 99 AF & AM and Order of the Eastern Star.
Philpot is survived by his wife, Mrs. Theda M. Philpot, of the home; his mother, Mrs. Eva Philpot of Chapin; two sons Robert F. Philpot of St. Louis and Richard E. Philpot of Des Moines; two grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Philpot of Swaledale, Ia.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1956.
Services
Funeral services for Rolland Francis Philpot were held from the Nevada Christian Church Tuesday, Jan. 15, 1963, at 2 p. m. with the Rev. Leslie Zimmerman officiating.
Mrs. Mary Pevestorf, soloist, sang one song, "No Night There, " accompanied by Miss Virginia Bierschwal at the organ.
The many floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. Lee Cook and Mrs. Glenn Kenney.
Masonic services at the graveside were in charge of Pacific Lodge No. 469 of Zearing, in charge of Raymond Kleespie.
The casket bearers were: Blake Elliott, Kermit Helland, Dean Howell, William Vasey, Harold Walter and Floyd Wycoff.
Burial was in the Nevada Cemetery.
