Funeral Services For E. S. Overland Held In Story City
STORY CITY -- Funeral services for E. S. Overland were held Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 1 at 1:30 at the Larson Funeral Home and at 2 o'clock in Immanuel Lutheran church, the Rev. T. J. Alvestad officiating.
Mrs. Benjamin Anderson and Truman Quam sang "In the Garden" and "God's Ways" at the church.
Pall bearers were Sherman Sunnes, Albert Omvig, Ira Thorson, Ole Lund, Martin J. Teig and G. S. Olson. Burial was in the Story City cemetery.
Obituary
Edwin Silas Overland, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Overland, was born at Morris, Ill. Nov. 21, 1885 where he lived until 1900. He was baptized and confirmed at East Prairie Lutheran church near Morris.
He came to Iowa with his parents and brother in 1900. He was united in marriage to Lillie Johnson of Morris Jan. 15, 1913. To this union four children were born-- Anna, Lawrence, Jesse and Paul. The latter died in infancy. Since coming to Iowa he lived on a farm in Hamilton county until October 31, 1953 when he moved to Story City where he passed away Jan. 28 at the age of 69 years.
When the family came to Iowa they first joined St. Paul's Lutheran church later transferring to Elim Lutheran of Randall. When moving to Story City they transferred their membership to Immanuel Lutheran.
He is survived by his wife, three children, Anna of Iowa city, Lawrence of Denver, Colo. and Jesse of Jewell also five grandchildren.
