Obituaries

Nels Mathiason, son of Marius and Anna Mathiason, was born Nov. 27, 1888 near Randall, Iowa, and passed away at the Story City Memorial Hospital on Sunday evening, Nov. 2, 1975.

He and Mabel Thompson were married on June 9, 1915. They farmed in the Story City area until they retired and moved to Story City in May, 1964. Nels was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Story City.

Those who survived him are a son, Emery of Ames, two daughters, Mrs. Celia Nessa of Hubbard and Mrs. Mildred Thompson of Osage. Eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren. Also a brother Victor of Nevada and four sisters, Mrs. Blanche Hanson, Mrs. Ammanda Hendrickson, Mrs. Rose Lykins, and Mrs. Myrtle McCreight, all of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, April 6, 1968, his parents, two infant children, two sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held at Grace United Methodist Church, Story city at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5. Rev. Paul H. Beckman officiated.

Mrs. Dorrell Doolittle was organist and Mrs. Clara Anderson Soloist, who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Going Down the Valley."

Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Pall bearers were Merlin Doolittle, Pat Matheason, Marvin Oppedal, Larry Lykins and Ervin Matheason.
