Funeral Services Held for Paul Wenos

Special to the Journal.
Huxley, July 10,--Funeral services for Paul Wenos were held Saturday afternoon. A brief service was held at the home at 1:30 when Mrs. Roy Elliott sand "Tired." Rev. Peder Buland read the 23rd Psalm and offered prayer. Another solo "Does Jesus Care" was sung by Mrs. Elliott. Services were held from the Palestine Lutheran church at 2 p. m. Rev. Peder Buland preached the sermon, using as his texts, the 22nd verse of the 16th chapter of Job, "when a few are come, then I shall go the the way whence I shall not return," and part of the 12th verse of the 4th chapter of Amos, "Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel." A quartet, composed of Gladys Tweedt, Dorothy and Robert Larson and Walter Christopher sang "Going Down the Valley," "Softly and Tenderly" was sung by the church choir and a duet "God's Way is the Best Way" by Mrs. Roy Elliott and Walter Christopher. The floral offerings in his memory were beautiful.

Paul Wenos was a son of Olai and Guro Wenos and was born near Leanger, Norway, July 3, 1863. He came to America at the age of 16 years, arriving first at Sheldahl. He spent the greater part of his life in this community in both Story and Polk counties. In 1890 he was married to Helen Fjelland. To this union six children were born. His wife passed away in 1910, a son, Henry died in 1916, a daughter Mrs. Amelia Longnecker in 1921, and an infant daughter Alice Cecelia died in 1907 at the age of 10 days.

For a short time after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Fjelland lived in Palo Alto county, and few years in Cambridge. Mr. Wenos was engaged in tiling for many years and later in carpenter work. In the fall of 1916 he moved to Huxley and he made his home here since that time. He had been ill from tuberculosis for nearly three years, and had been bedfast for a number of weeks. He passed away at 11 a. m. July 4, 1935 at the age of 71 years and 1 day.

He had two brothers and two sisters who have preceded him in death. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Larson and Mrs. Willie Richardson and one son, Andrew O. Wenos and three granddaughters Dorothy and Betty Larson and Edna Delores Wenos. His remains were laid to rest in the Palestine cemetery. Pall bearers were Thor H. Mason, Peter Seldahl, Osmund L. Larson, Andrew T. Fjelland, Ernest Nelson and R. P. Brendeland. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Christianson and Mrs. W. H. Baker from Clarion.
