William Kersey Dies on Friday; Funeral Here Sunday

John William Kersey, 72, native son of Story county, died Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of his sister, Mrs. Iva Ripkey at Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Morfoot Funeral Home in Nevada, after which the body will be laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery.

Mr. Kersey had been failing in health for some time, and had grown weaker the past few weeks, during which time he had been cared for at the home of his sister.

Born in Ames Feb. 13, 1869, he was married in July, 1894, to Miss Ida Leonard of Nevada. To this union three children were born, one of whom, Iva, died in infancy. Those surviving are Veva, now Mr. Harry Mills of Nevada and Nelle, now Mrs. Fred Lubbers of Omaha. Surviving brothers and sisters are Fred Kersey of Nevada, Mrs. Etta Talley of Ames, Walter Kersey of Des Moines, Mrs. Fannie Nitcher of Portland, Ore. and Mrs. Iva Ripkey of Gilbert at whose home he spent his final days.

Much of his life was spent as a farmer in Milford township and in and around Nevada and Ames, where he was well known to a wide circle of friends.
