Last Rites Held In Story City for Mrs. James Johnson

Funeral services for Mrs. James K. Johnson were held Saturday afternoon, June 25th, at 2 o'clcok in the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. A prayer service in the chapel at 1:30 preceeded the regular service.

Pastor George C. Strum officiated. Mrs. Alfred Jacobson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Robert Hermanson, who sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," and at the close of the service, she sang "Den Store Hvide Flok."

Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Ed Christian, Lars Raymond, Raymond Sande, Sterling Sande, Martin H. Henryson and T. Z. Henryson.

Obituary

Mrs. James K. Johnson was born Hannah Pederson in Hamilton County, Dec. 4, 1874, the daughter of Chris and Malinda Pederson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Elim Lutheran Church.

On March 3, 1898, she was united in marriage to James K. Johnson in the home of her parents. They moved to a farm north of Roland, until they purchased a farm northeast of Story City in 1900. At this time they joined the St. Petri Church and became active members. They moved to their present home at 333 Elm Street in April 1946.

Twelve children were born to this union: Carrie, at home; Mrs. Elmer (Myrtle) Hanson, Herman and Leonard Johnson, all of Story City; Mrs. M. J. (Leonora) Newsom and Mrs. Don (Anna) Benton, both of Des Moines. Six sons preceded her in death.

Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death in October, 1949. Also a sister and three brothers have preceded her in death; one sister, Mrs. Helen Sydness who is a resident of the Story City Sunset Home, survives, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Johnson was 86 years old when she died in her home in Story City on June 23rd after a two weeks illness.
