Verne A. Hill Dies, Rites in Story City
Verne A. Hill, 47 year old Story City man, died at 9 p.m. last night at the Ames Mary Greeley Hospital. He had been admitted to the hospital only six hours previous to his death.
Hill had been a post office employe at Story City for the past 22 years and for several years had umpired baseball games in the central Iowa area. He was born and grew up in the Story City community.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 3, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City with Rev. Harold T. Masted officiating. Burial will be in the Story City municipal cemetery. Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Alice; two sons, Danny of Corning and Verne Jr. who lives at home; one daughter, Karen (Mrs. Robert Stangland) of Jewell; four brothers, Melbourne of Viet Nam, Lucas and LeRoy of Des Moines and Earnest of Kiester, Minn.; one sister, Connie (Mrs. Ed Chance) of North Augusta, South Carolina; two grandchildren and his mother, Mrs. Mable Omvig of Story City.
