Funeral Services For Newton H. Frey, 58, At Lutheran Church

Funeral services for Newton H. Frey, of R. 1, Nevada, were held from Memorial Lutheran church Monday, April 7, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. E. P. Windman officiating.

An unusually large number of floral offerings testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. In addition to the flowers there was a large sum of money given in his memory to the building fund of the Memorial Lutheran church. The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Leo Sutherland and Mrs. Leonard Dueland.

Two songs "Abide With Me, " and "No Night There" were sung by Mrs. Ansel Freeland, accompanied by Leslie Henderson.

The casket bearers were Leonard Dueland, Leslie McBride, Tom Hemstock, Harold Heintz, Leo Sutherland and John Thorson.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Obituary

Newton H. Frey was born at Lancaster, Pa., December 19, 1893, a son of Zacharias and Mary Frey. He passed away at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames at 4:15 p.m., Thursday afternoon, April 3, following a six months illness.

Mr. Frey came to Story county in 1912. On December 14, 1914, he was united in marriage to Erma G. Reitz in the parsonage of the Lutheran church in Nevada. Since 1917 they have lived on the Reitz homestead five miles south of Nevada. Mr. Frey had always been engaged in farming. He was a member of Memorial Lutheran church which he had joined in 1916.

He had been associated with the AAA for several years and a the time of his death was Nevada township trustee.

Mr. Frey was recognized as a fine neighbor and sincere friend.

Four children were born the Mr. and Mrs. Frey, three of whom, with the mother survive him. They are Reba, Mrs. A. A. Gilchrist of Manitou Springs, Colo.; Thelma, Mrs. Forest Weeks of Cambridge; and Helen, Mrs. Kenneth Lang of Ames; one child, the eldest, died in infancy.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Abner Frey and one sister, Mrs. N. L. Heckel, both of Lancaster, Pa. His parents, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Among the large number from over Story county in attendance at the last rites were William Reitz of Valley City, N.D., a brother of Mrs. Frey, and Flora Hahn of Cedar Rapids, a cousin of Mr. Frey, here from a distance.

The daughter, Mrs. A. A. Gilchrist of Manitou Springs, Colo., was unable to be present as she is still in the hospital following the birth of the baby son, Rickey Newton.

The brother and sister, who had recently been here and spent a week at the Frey home, were unable to return from Lancaster, Pa. for the funeral because of illness.
