Cora Madden Brown

STORY CITY: Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Brown were held Tuesday afternoon, April 30, at the Grace E. U. B. Church, Story City, at two o'clock with the pastor, Rev. W. D. Winter, officiating. Mrs. Homer Olson and Mrs. Luther Matson sang "Nearer May God To Thee" and "Beyond the Sunset" with Mrs. Dorrell Doolittle serving at the organ. Interment was in the Gilbert Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ralph Stull, Elmer Olson, Clarence Thompson, George Sowers, Harvey Jorgenson and Magnus Olson.

Obituary

Cora Maddn Brown was born at Mackey, Boone County, Iowa April 10, 1880 and died at Borton Rest Home, Nevada, April 27 at the age of 77 years and 17 days.

She was one of seven children born to Richard Marcus and Sarah Hill Madden at Mackey. Her parents both passed away when she was a small child. For a home and care, Cora was placed in the Leonard Johnson home at Ridgeport, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage to Grant Brown of near Story City on March 9, 1904. To this union nine children were born: Ralph of Story City; Reno of Ames; Vera of Des Moines; Arlene (Mrs. Silas Nyguard) of Forest City; Dwight of Memphis, Tenn.; Orson of Iowa City, and Paul of Story City.

She was preceded in death by her husband twenty-nine years ago, and by her parents, and twin sister, Dora Reynolds; two brothers, Frank and John Madden and grandson, Byron Brown. Survivors include all of her children, nineteen grandchildren, one sister, Rhoda Cole of Boone, two brothers, Richard of Tacoma, Wash., and James of Boone, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
